Sharjah, UAE - 500 Street Lights to Date
Sharjah, the second largest city of United Arab Emirates, undertook a major change in terms of water and electricity savings. One of the first projects is to replace traditional street lights with LED lights. To date, more than 500 light fixtures were installed by Elumen Lighting Networks.
Managers of this major project chose Elumen Lighting Networks for the energy efficiency of its products, but also because of the low maintenance required (and thus lower costs). Indeed, not only Elumen products have the longest lifespan in the industry, but they are known for the uniformity and quality of the light emitted besides their resistance in such an arid environment (intense heat, significant amount of sand and dust, major temperature variation between day and night, etc.).
A few months after the installation of the first LED street lights, project managers noted two results:
- Energy and maintenance costs reduced by 35%
- Reduction of traffic accidents (better visibility due to better road illumination and eliminating dark spots because light is distributed more evenly.)
The replacement of traditional street lights with LED ones is so successful that stadiums and buildings in urban zones are also following in converting to LEDs.
